Off-Grid Rainwater Harvesting System

A property going fully off municipal water, sized around the reality of the Garden Route's rainfall rather than a fixed daily allowance. The design needed enough storage to carry the property through a dry spell, and pre-filtration good enough that the stored water stays usable rather than turning stagnant in the tanks.

Roof gutters feed straight into a first settling tank, where sediment and debris drop out before the water goes anywhere near the main storage. A connecting pipe carries the pre-settled water into four 10,000-litre tanks connected in series — 40,000 litres of capacity, piped so the tanks draw down evenly instead of leaving one stranded full while another runs dry. A magnetic pump and filter housing treat the water before it's distributed to the property.

It's a straightforward system built right: settle first, store at scale, filter before use. No moving parts beyond the pump, and no dependence on a municipal line that may or may not be reliable.
